A false alarm occurs when a security system is activated when this is no emergency – whether it is activated willfully, unintentionally, negligently or inadvertently. It also includes when a system is activated due to mechanical or electrical malfunction. It has been determined that false alarm does not include alarm notifications caused by climatic conditions, utility line mishaps or other conditions determined to be beyond the control of the alarm manufacturer, installer or user.
Due to the number of false alarm responses by the Police Department, the City of Berwyn has instituted false alarm fees. Any individual or business whose alarm system reports more than three (3) false alarms within a calendar year will pay the following service fees:
