The City of Berwyn has four (4) Red-Light Violation cameras within the city limits that are located at:
Ogden and Harlem Avenues – for traffic traveling westbound
Ogden and Harlem Avenues – for traffic traveling northbound
Ridgeland Avenue and Cermak Road – for traffic eastbound
Harlem Avenue and Cermak Road - for traffic westbound
To avoid receiving a Red-Light Violation all you need do is to adhere to the “Rules of the Road”, the official State of Illinois publication used for driver education and study book for obtaining a drivers license. Here is a reminder:
Red light: Stop at the marked stop line. If there is not a marked stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection. Do not go until the light is green and the intersection is clear.
You may make a right turn at a red light or a left turn at a red light when turning from a one-way street onto another one-way street that has traffic moving to the left. In both instances, drivers must come to a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before turning. A good rule of thumb is that once you come to a complete stop, is to wait three (3) seconds by counting … one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three.
What is a Complete Stop?
Remember that a rolling stop is a term used in traffic law to refer to when a vehicle fails to come to a complete stop. A complete stop is when there is no forward momentum and the needle on the speedometer is at 0. In a rolling stop, the car wheels are still in motion and the car is moving at less than 5 mph. Failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign or stop light is a traffic violation in Illinois. The longer you stop, the more discernable it is to either the naked eye or to a red light camera that you were in compliance. The legal definition of a complete stop is when the cars rocks backward upon coming to a complete stop.
